Our Mission & History

Providing compassionate care and housing since 1987.

Our Mission

To provide diverse housing options, compassionate care, and access to collaborative support services for persons living with disabilities, HIV/AIDS, enabling them to thrive in our communities.

ACRA, the Affordable Community Residence Association, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in Durham, NC.

Our History

ACRA was started in 1987 by six individuals who wanted to provide a compassionate hospice residence for individuals living with AIDS. Over the years, as the needs of the Durham community and the nature of the epidemic changed, our mission evolved.

Today, we provide long-term supportive housing for a broader community of residents. We have served hundreds of clients from all over the state of North Carolina and the Southeast. We are thankful for the Durham community’s support for over 35 years.
